Art Walks Reviews in Amsterdam
Had a wonderful time during the 2-hour art walk with Maud. She explained everything in a very clear and engaging way, and made me feel comfortable visiting the galleries. I learned to look at art from a different perspective and really enjoyed the experience. Would definitely recommend!
Veel dank voor ontzettend fijne en leerzame middag! Maira is een toppertje. En zo knap van je hoe je dit hebt opgezet! Katja & Pieter
As someone who works in a creative field, I found this really inspiring. The walk balanced established institutions with grungier, experimental spaces, which is exactly the mix I wanted. The guide offered a special method to look at art, which I loved. Came away with a full camera roll and a few studios I want to follow. Refreshingly un-generic.
I’ve done art walks in a dozen cities and this ranks among the better ones. What sets it apart is that it actually happens in the galleries — the guide clearly lives and breathes this scene. The route felt personal, almost like being shown around by a friend who happens to know a lot about art. A couple of stops were busier than ideal, but that’s Amsterdam. Recommended.
For years I’d walk past galleries and want to go in, but something always stopped me — that feeling that you need to know something or to buy something, or just that you’ll be exposed as not belonging. So I just didn’t. And here going in as a small group took the pressure off completely, and Maira had a way of making it feel like galleries are simply open doors, not exclusive clubs. Honestly a little life-changing — I’ve been into three galleries on my own since, something I’d never have done a month ago. If you’ve ever hovered outside and talked yourself out of going in, this is for you.
I’ve been to the Rijksmuseum more times than I can count, so I was looking for something new and exciting. This delivered. The focus on art galleries and the context around the contemporary scene was genuinely enriching. My only small gripe is that the pace felt slightly rushed at the last two stops, I’d have happily spent another half an hour in those galleries. Still, a thoughtful, well-curated experience.
We booked this for our anniversary and it was a lovely way to spend early afternoon together. Wandering through the Jordaan, ducking into little galleries, learning things neither of us knew — it felt very intimate. A really nice shared memory. Highly recommend for couples who’d rather do something new together.
A well-organised outing. We started promptly, covered a sensible route, and the guide was knowledgeable and clearly experienced. I appreciated that questions were welcomed and answered properly. Comfortable walking distance, good stops for a rest. My wife enjoyed it as much as I did. Would suggest wearing decent shoes, as the cobbles can be uneven. Good value for the money.
Valuable, fun, engaging — and it genuinely changed the way I see art and the world around me. Perfect for anyone who wants to drop the obvious and open themselves to something inspiring, surprising, and unexpected along Amsterdam’s canals. I would definitely recommend it!
It was surprising to be there! Cried a little. 10/10
